
If your spa's hydraulic unit fails, start by locating the impeller housing. Most models position this behind the motor assembly, secured with four stainless steel screws. Remove the rear cover carefully–excessive force risks cracking the plastic. Inspect the impeller for calcium deposits or erosion; a worn blade reduces water flow by 30-45% and should be replaced immediately. Measure the diameter (typically 3–4 inches for standard units) before ordering.





Start with OEM casting numbers stamped on the cylinder heads and block to confirm compatibility–common identifiers like 3970010 (block) and 3991492 (heads) ensure proper fitment for most 1967-2001 variants. Replace the crankshaft thrust bearings first if any lateral play exceeds 0.006 inches–failure risks catastrophic bearing walk-off at high RPM. The piston ring gap must be set at 0.004 inches per inch of bore for standard forged slugs; turbo or nitrous applications require 0.005-0.007 to prevent butting under thermal expansion.
