
Start by locating the flame retention head–the core element positioned at the combustion chamber’s front end. Its swirl veins are calibrated to mix air and fuel at a 30-40° angle, ensuring optimal ignition efficiency. If fouling occurs, check for carbon buildup on the retention ring, which should maintain a clearance of 0.030–0.050 inches from the nozzle. Misalignment here will disrupt the flame pattern, leading to incomplete combustion and soot accumulation.
